3D Design Elements and 3D Typography Design
One graphic design trend that is predicted to become increasingly popular in 2024 is the use of three-dimensional design elements and typography. This trend has already begun to emerge in recent years, and it is only set to grow in popularity as we move into the new decade.
Three-dimensional design allows designers to create unique and eye-catching compositions that really pop off the page. Additionally, three-dimensional typography can add an extra level of depth and dimensionality to a design. If you want your designs to stand out in 2024, consider incorporating some three-dimensional elements into your work.
The latest updates in Adobe software and Cinema 4D have thrust 3D and 4D design into the spotlight. We are seeing many brands rolling out marketing campaigns with 3D illustrations and product design. 3D design isn’t available to only digital designers – I have seen so many illustrators and other artists crafting amazing 3D projects.
Serif Fonts
Serif fonts will also be making a comeback in 2024. After years of minimalist designs, we will see a return to more traditional and classic design elements. Serif fonts are the perfect way to add a touch of elegance to your designs, and they are sure to be popular in the coming year.
Serif fonts are often used for logos, branding materials, and other high-end design projects. We are also going to see many non-traditional serif fonts including fun ascenders and descenders and anything to make the font stand out among the crowd.
Even though we know a type of font is not a design principle in itself, serif fonts deserve to be highlighted as one of the biggest graphic design trends coming in 2024. We are expecting to see a lot of traditional designs and an ode to vintage design which paves the way for serif fonts to come back on the trend radar.
Many new companies and brands are choosing a serif font as the staple for their logo. We are also seeing a lot of brands rebranding their logos and media kit to include a serif font. Sans-serifs were the trend for so long and many companies started to all look the same due to their use of a sans-serif font in their somewhat boring and uninteresting branding.
There are so many different styles of serif fonts to choose from which makes this trend so fun. Graphic designers can get really creative with their choice of serif for a branding project. If you’re lucky, you can find a graphic designer that is also an excellent custom font creator to make a custom serif font really stand out.
If custom fonts are something you are interested in, feel free to reach out to me!
Custom Type and Custom Fonts
Custom type and custom fonts will be a big trend in 2024. This is because businesses are looking for ways to stand out from the crowd and make an impact with their designs. Custom type gives businesses the freedom to create unique, eye-catching designs that reflect their brand identity.
Many graphic designers and font designers are creating custom typefaces, which are fonts that are designed specifically for a brand or business. This trend is perfect for businesses looking to create a unique and memorable logo or other branding materials.
Custom type and custom fonts have seen a surge in popularity in recent years, as businesses realize the potential to stand out from the crowd with unique designs. In 2024, this trend is likely to continue growing, as more businesses take advantage of this powerful tool.
One of the advantages of using custom type is that it can be used to create a cohesive look throughout your designs. By using the same typeface across all of your branding materials, you can ensure that all of your designs look unified and consistent. This is especially important for businesses looking to establish a strong brand identity.
Minimal Vintage Design like the “Good Ol’ Days”
Minimal vintage design will also be popular in 2024. This trend is perfect for businesses that want to capture some of the nostalgia of the past, while still creating a modern look and feel.
This style incorporates elements from classic designs, like typography with serifs or decorative accents, but updates it with modern colors and patterns. Modern technology, such as vector graphics, makes it easier than ever to create minimal vintage designs that look clean and polished.
This trend is perfect for businesses looking to capture some of the nostalgia of the past, while still staying up-to-date with modern trends. By combining elements from classic designs with modern technology and techniques, businesses can create unique, eye-catching designs that stand out from the crowd.
Bold Minimalism
Bold minimalism is another trend that will be popular in graphic design in 2024.
Designers can use fewer elements which allows them to focus on creating a clear message and delivering it in an impactful way. Bold colors and shapes can draw attention to the design and help emphasize the message.
Create simple and powerful designs that can stand out from the crowd. By using bold colors, shapes, and minimal elements, businesses are able to create unique and memorable designs that make an impact.

This trend is perfect for edgy businesses with an artistic or artsy customer base looking to make an impact with their branding materials. By utilizing liquid shapes and colors, businesses can create unique and memorable designs that will be remembered.
The use of liquid gradients is also perfect for creating a sense of movement within the design.
Natural Modernism
Natural modernism is a growing trend that will continue to be popular in 2024. This style combines elements of nature and modern design to create unique and eye-catching designs.
This trend is perfect for graphic designers looking to create an organic or eco-friendly feel with their clients’ branding materials. By utilizing natural elements such as plants, earthy colors, and textures, businesses are able to create designs that stand out from the crowd.
By combining modern design elements with natural elements, designers can create unique designs that will appeal to customers who are looking for something different and contrasting, yet still familiar.
Virtual Reality and the Metaverse
Virtual reality and the metaverse are becoming increasingly popular in the tech space, thus making it more popular in graphic design and marketing trends for 2024. This trend pushes companies to capture the attention of tech-savvy customers or those who want to be on the cutting edge of new technology.
The use of virtual reality in graphic design is perfect for companies looking to make an impact on their customers or those who want to be ahead of the curve when it comes to technology trends.
Soon, designers will probably be able to create virtual worlds that customers can explore and interact with, creating an immersive experience for them. By utilizing virtual reality and the metaverse, businesses can create unique branding materials that will leave a lasting impression on their customers.
Photography Heavy Design
Photography heavy design is a trend that was becoming increasingly popular in 2024 and will continue with popularity in 2024. This style utilizes high-quality photographs to create an impactful and memorable design.
Using high-resolution photos captures the attention of their customers and conveys their message quickly and effectively. High-quality images are essential for creating designs with a powerful impact that are also memorable and unique.
Be careful with this trend, though. It is important to make sure that the photos used are of high quality and relevant to the message being conveyed.
By utilizing photography heavy design in their branding materials, businesses can create a unique and impactful design that will leave their customers envisioning themselves in the brand.
Brutalism
Brutalism is an emerging trend that focuses on creating bold and edgy designs with strong typography, shapes, and colors. This style of design emphasizes the raw elements of a brand or message to create something eye-catching and memorable.
Brutalism in design makes an impact by standing out from the crowd with its bold and unique elements. This trend can be used in branding materials for those who want something different from the conventional designs seen in marketing materials.
This style of design requires a bit more thought and creativity than other trends, but when done right it can create powerful and impactful designs that will be remembered.
Chaotic Maximalism
Chaotic maximalism is a trend that will be popular in 2024. This style of design focuses on creating visually stimulating designs by combining multiple elements such as shapes, fonts, and colors.
Gen Z loves the trend of chaotic maximalism because it allows them to express their unique and vibrant personalities. This trend is perfect for businesses that want to stand out from the crowd and capture the attention of their customers with an unconventional design.
Chaotic maximalism allows designers to get creative by combining elements in a visually stimulating way, creating something unique and memorable.
This trend utilizes chaos to create something eye-catching and memorable while also conveying a message effectively. The combination of multiple design elements can be used to create something unique that stands out from the crowd.
Retro Line Art
Retro line art is a trend that has been gaining popularity in the graphic design space for some time now. This style of design utilizes simple, flat designs with clean lines to create an eye-catching and memorable design.
This trend can be used to capture the attention of customers while conveying a message quickly and effectively. Retro line art creates something unique and memorable, often making their target audience feel a certain type of emotion from looking at their marketing.
Retro line art is a great way to create something visually appealing and impactful with minimal effort. Retro line art captures people’s attention and hearts with a unique design.
Vibrant Nostalgia
We will see a lot of references to traditional media in 2024. With the world becoming increasingly digitized, we will see a trend of designs that reference old-school media such as newspapers, magazines, and books. This trend is likely to be popular with businesses that want to give their products a more vintage look.
When it comes to using vibrant nostalgia in your work think bright, fun, popping, and motion or movement in your designs! This is also a trend that combines both graphic design and illustration for a creative and imaginative final product.
Vibrant nostalgia was a huge trend in 2024 in the world of graphic design and I see it sticking around for 2024. How can you not love this design trend? I am seeing multiple different types of nostalgia and vintage design trends that are coming back in 2024 and this is just one of them.
Expressive Lettering and Organic Type (Wavy Letters)
Another big trend we will see in 2024 is expressive lettering and organic type. This trend is all about creating text that is fluid and natural-looking, often with a hand-drawn or calligraphic feel. This style of lettering can add a lot of personality to a design, and it is perfect for brands that want to convey a more human and approachable image.
Hand-lettered designs are the perfect way to add a human touch to your work, and they are sure to be a big hit in 2024. If you want to stay ahead of the curve, start practicing your hand-lettering skills now!
Expressive lettering is also a great opportunity for graphic designers who are dipping their toes into custom lettering and font making. I think we are going to see many graphic designers spending a lot more time creating custom fonts for brand kits and logos than we have in the past.
You can also purchase expressive, funky fonts online from many different graphic designers and font makers! Check out some of my fonts for inspiration.
Natural Patterns and Textures
As we move into 2024, we will see a continued trend of natural patterns and textures in graphic design. This can be seen in the popularity of wood grain textures, stone textures, and other organic patterns. This trend is likely to continue as designers seek to create more natural and earthy designs.
Designers are increasingly using organic shapes and forms to create designs that feel more natural and organic. This trend is often combined with other trends, such as hand-drawn elements or vintage references. If you want your designs to feel fresh and modern in 2024, consider incorporating some natural patterns and textures into your work.
This is one of my favorite graphic design trends in 2024. Textures are one of my favorite elements to play with when designing. Many designers and illustrators are adding texture to their designs to make their designs come to life, even if they will never leave a computer screen.
Whether that means adding a luxury paper texture, postcard texture, or even a crumpled newspaper texture, textures and patterns of any kind add another layer of interest and intrigue to designs. This is definitely something I would recommend trying if you have not experimented with textures before.
Bubble Design and Bubble Type
A relatively new trend that is predicted to become popular in 2024 is bubble design. This style features round, bubbly shapes and letters that give a design a fun and playful feel. Bubble type is perfect for brands that want to convey a sense of playfulness and youthfulness.
Bubble type can also be used to add a sense of movement and energy to a design as we talked about in one of the previous trends which was expressive lettering an organic type. Bubble type and expressive lettering go hand in hand and push this trend even further.
You can use bubble type in many different types of design, including branding, signage, posters, and more! The possibilities are endless for expressive type and bubble type.
Grain, Noise, and Texture
We are starting to see trends coming in 2024 with the use of grain, noise, and texture in graphic design. This trend is all about adding an extra level of depth and dimensionality to a design. Grain and noise textures can be used to add an old-fashioned or vintage look to a design, while still keeping it modern.
Texture is used to add a tactile quality to a design, making it more interesting and engaging. This trend is perfect for businesses that want to create a more high-end and luxurious image.
We are seeing grain and texture added to a lot of mockups and illustrations recently. Many illustrators are adding grain or a paper texture to their illustrations to make their digital illustrations look like they were drawn on physical paper, oftentimes distressing the illustrations.
Diversity And Inclusion Graphics
Another big trend that we will see in 2024 is diversity and inclusion graphics. With the world becoming increasingly diverse, graphic designers need to reflect this in their work. We will see more designs that feature people of all backgrounds and cultures, as well as more awareness campaigns that focus on promoting diversity.
Parametric Patterns
Another big trend we will see in 2024 is parametric patterns. This trend involves the use of algorithms to generate complex patterns and shapes. Parametric patterns can be used to create really unique and interesting designs that are impossible to achieve with traditional methods.
A parametric pattern is a design method that uses algorithmic components and processes to build an element or pattern. Parametric patterns and architecture blend complexity and variety. Parametric patterns create interest in spaces that can be generally thought of as bland and not design-worthy, such as these airport flooring designs below.
Geometric Shapes
Geometric shapes will also be big in 2024. We will see a lot of clean, minimalistic designs that feature geometric shapes. This trend is likely to be popular with both businesses and consumers alike, as it gives off a modern and professional look.
This trend is especially popular with businesses that want to convey a sense of stability and reliability. Designers often use geometric shapes to create logos and other branding materials to add an interesting twist to an otherwise uninteresting and plain logo or brand kit.
Geometric shapes can be utilized in both graphic design and illustration in many different ways. I challenge you to have fun with geometric shapes and add some to your designs in 2024. The possibilities are really endless with this rising graphic design trend.
Frasurbane
Another trend that is just starting to reemerge is Frasurbane. Frasurbane is an interesting emerging trend that has been around for quite some time. This trend first started in the early 90’s as mainly an interior design trend, but we are seeing this trend come to light in the graphic design world.
This style combines beige and earth-toned elements with interior design aesthetics like Art Deco and Neoclassical PoMo, even some Biedermeier. Frasurbane focuses on muted colors and exaggerated fonts along with other elements as you can see in the examples below.
Reference To Traditional Media
Another big trend that we will see in 2024 is the reference to traditional media. With the rise of digital media, we are starting to see a lot of designers referencing traditional mediums such as painting, sculpture, and photography.
Since 2020, there has been a revival of crafting as a pass time. This led to a renewed interest in traditional mediums such as painting, sculpture, and photography. We will see more designers referencing these mediums in their work as we move into 2024.
Much like 3D design, an ode to traditional media is sparking interest in 2024. Traditional media artists are seen pairing with photographers and graphic designers to collaborate on projects that combine traditional media with the digital art space. I think this is a trend to continue to watch from 2023 onward.
Bright and Bold Colors
Bright and bold colors will continue to be popular in 2024. This trend is perfect for businesses that want to create a fun and cheerful image. Bright and bold colors add a pop of excitement and energy to a design or branding making a brand come alive on screen!
We will also see a lot of designs that feature nostalgic elements and color palettes. This trend is perfect for businesses that want to tap into consumers’ nostalgia. Combining bright colors with retro nostalgia is a double whammy when it comes to stacking these graphic design trends.
This is another really fun graphic design trend to try in 2024, especially if you have grown accustomed to using muted color schemes in the past. This trend might be just what you need to push you out of your comfort zone and to try something new and exciting!
Illustration and Animation
Illustration and animation are also becoming increasingly popular in the world of graphic design. These elements can be used to create really unique and interesting designs that are sure to grab attention. Illustration. is a great way to play with doodles and add extra details to a design or branding project. Illustrations are one of a kind.
Lottie animation is also a great way to add movement to your designs, and it is perfect for businesses that want to add a touch of fun and excitement to their work. You can incorporate your illustrations and turn them into Lottie Animations to add dynamic movement to your project.
Just like we are seeing many traditional media artists branching out and collaborating with digital artists, illustrators are also diving into animation in addition to 3D and traditional media.
Animation keeps getting easier and more accessible for illustrators and designers so we are definitely seeing an uptick in people exploring and experimenting with animation in 2024.
Art Nouveau-Inspired Type
Art Nouveau-inspired type will also be big in 2024. This trend is perfect for businesses that want to add a touch of elegance and sophistication to their work. Everyone could use a little touch of luxury and elegance, right?
Similar to how serif fonts are making a great comeback in 2024, art nouveau-inspired fonts and designs will be prominent in the coming year.
Art Nouveau-inspired type often features ornate and intricate designs, making it perfect for luxury brands or high-end design projects. This is one of my personal favorite graphic design trends in 2024!
Organic Shapes and Patterns
Organic shapes and patterns will continue to be popular in 2024. This trend is perfect for businesses that want to create a natural look and feel. We have seen a lot of use of organic shapes. and patterns in 2024, and they are not going anywhere in 2024.
Organic shapes and patterns are often used to create logos, branding materials, and other corporate identity pieces as seen in the examples below. The possibilities are endless with how to incorporate organic shapes into your designs, especially if you are a creative illustrator.
Any kind of shape as a whole is a great way to add personality and style to your designs. We’ve seen how geometric shapes can be used to spark an interest or feeling as well as these organic shape and pattern examples above. Don’t shy away from experimentation with shapes!
